Turning over a new leaf

"I'm ready to turn over a new leaf" she says to me. I immediately think it's a good idea but as she asks me where this term came from I decide to find out because I, too, need to turn over a new leaf. So, as Google directed me I learned that the phrase is not related to gardening or plant life of any kind but is related to reading; turning a new page. Folding over the OLD, bad page with the NEW page or leaf.

With the history/idiom lesson over I turn to my notes from last night where I have penned my goals for the month of June. I jot them down early so I can get a head start, gain some leeway in case I mess up which I will invariably do. I can't reconcile myself to the reality that everyone messes up with their goals and has to get up and go on; I want to be perfect, no blemishes so I try to give myself extra room or time. Why? Am I guaranteed to mess up before the start date or after? Perhaps I should schedule in 'mess up' time....................I digress and will perhaps add this 'issue' to my goals list another month.

My Goals for June 2012 (beginning today)

1. Lose 12 lbs.
A. This is 2.5lbs per week if I begin Monday (again getting a head start and adding wiggle-room).
a. eat REAL food
b. eliminate white flours and sugars

2. Complete 3 books
A. Classic Literature- The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
B. Contemporary Fiction- Tough Customer by Sandra Brown
C. NonFiction- Jesus Among Other Gods by Ravi Zacharias

3. Finish 1 project (most likely my crocheting)

4. Cook 15 meals
A. approx. 3 meals per week
a. update social calendar and plan accordingly
b. set aside time to clean and prep kitchen, begin earlier in the day

5. Detail the Master Bedroom
A. List all that needs to be cleaned
B. Clean thoroughly!!!!!

Wow! I look at this outline (outlining was never my strong suit in school) and see that this is SMART:

S-specific
M-manageable
A-attainable
R-realistic
T-?

I think I have the acronym correct. Perhaps I'll research this as part of my Goals for July.
